It is hot everywhere, but this chili-grilled hamburger will have you drooling.
For the Chili
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 14 oz. diced tomatoes
- 6 oz. tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Burgers
- 1 pound ground beef
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices American cheese or cheese of your choice
- 4 tablespoons Queso cheese dip
- 1/2 cup crispy onion strings
- 4 hamburger buns
INSTRUCTIONS
For the Chili:
- In a large pot cook 1 pound of ground beef over medium heat until browned. Break the meat apart with a spatula as it cooks.
- Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot and cook for 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
- Stir in the diced onions and tomato paste.
- Add the beef broth, chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Season with salt and pepper.
- Bring the chili to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let the chili cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
For the Burgers:
- Preheat the grill or stovetop griddle to medium high heat.
- Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and form patties. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Grill the burgers for 45 minutes per side or until they reach your preferred level of doness.
- I the last minute of cooking place a slice of cheese on the burger to melt.
- Lightly toast the hamburger buns.
- Place the grilled burger with the cheese on the bottom bun.
- Spoon a generous amount of the chili over each burger.
- Drizzle each with 1 tablespoon of Queso cheese dip.
- Top with crispy onion strings.
- Cover with the top bun and serve immediately.
