It is hot everywhere, but this chili-grilled hamburger will have you drooling.

For the Chili

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 14 oz. diced tomatoes
  • 6 oz. tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Burgers

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices American cheese or cheese of your choice
  • 4 tablespoons Queso cheese dip
  • 1/2 cup crispy onion strings
  • 4 hamburger buns

INSTRUCTIONS

For the Chili:

  1. In a large pot cook 1 pound of ground beef over medium heat until browned. Break the meat apart with a spatula as it cooks.
  2. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot and cook for 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
  3. Stir in the diced onions and tomato paste.
  4. Add the beef broth, chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Bring the chili to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let the chili cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

For the Burgers:

  1. Preheat the grill or stovetop griddle to medium high heat.
  2. Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and form patties. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  3. Grill the burgers for 45 minutes per side or until they reach your preferred level of doness.
  4. I the last minute of cooking place a slice of cheese on the burger to melt.
  5. Lightly toast the hamburger buns.
  6. Place the grilled burger with the cheese on the bottom bun.
  7. Spoon a generous amount of the chili over each burger.
  8. Drizzle each with 1 tablespoon of Queso cheese dip.
  9. Top with crispy onion strings.
  10. Cover with the top bun and serve immediately.
