One of my favorite flowers is roses, especially red ones, they are beautiful and so fragrant, aside from the fact my favorite color is red. The rose is associated with Aphrodite, the goddess of love, and in many cultures symbolizes passion, desire, love, and sexuality. But roses are known to have medicinal qualities and are used by Chinese and American Indian cultures who use the petals and fruit of the plant (known as rosehips). This ancient herb has been used for beauty, emotional support, healing, and cleansing.
The most therapeutic components in the rose plant are phenolic compounds. They have properties of antioxidants, antidepressants, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and the destruction of free radicals, which cause disease. Vitamins E, D, C, A, and B3 are found in roses.
Flavonoids found in the rose plant have antidepressant properties, The extract of the plant reduces amyloid B, the cause of Alzheimer’s disease. The oil also contains the components eugenol and geraniol, known for their antiepileptic effects. A new compound extracted from the rose called cyanidin-3-0-B-glucoside may be effective in improving heart function, but it is still being researched.
The antibacterial quality of the rose comes from compounds nerol, geraniol, and citronellol, effective against bacteria Pseudomonas, E-coli, and others that proved to be beneficial against HIV cells. The rose flower improves skin quality because of its antioxidant properties. Many eye drops contain compounds made from rose petals because of their anti-infective, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Rose oil can be used to treat nausea, ulcers, dehydration, and infections of the urinary tract, colon, and stomach. It is used in combination with other compounds like grapefruit and almonds. Tea made from rose petals can increase the secretion of bile in the liver which cleanses the gall bladder. It also reduces the symptoms of bronchial infections and sore throats.
The Persian variety of rose plants gives relief from constipation, cleanses the blood, and increases the positivity of the mind. It has also been used to treat chicken pox and measles. Locate a naturopath doctor if you are suffering from serious ailments.
Rose tea made from rose petals, leaves, and hips assists in reducing fevers. It can flush toxins from the body and reduce skin rash. The flavonoids found in rose tea, help to boost the immune system. Other benefits are relief from chest and bronchial congestion, and a runny nose.
In Asian countries, you will find Rose Jam (Gulkand) sold in different locations. Made from rose petals, honey, cardamon, and other health ingredients, Rose jam is used to treat excess heat in the body, eye inflammation, and acid in the stomach. Other benefits include treatment of mouth ulcers, and menstrual pain, increases appetite, calms the nerves, and gets rid of stress.
The above-mentioned are in no way all the benefits of the rose plant, there are more. In closing please if you have them do not go to your yard and start harvesting your rose bushes for petals, rosehips, or to extract the oil from them. We have pesticides, fungicides, and who knows what else lurking in the garden. Even if you grow your plants without the use of pesticides, or fungicides, they are not safe to ingest. Find a naturopathic doctor or store for rose plants, petals, and oil extracts.
Until next time,
Peace, Love, and Blessings❤️
