Have you ever wondered what the color of your bread tags means? To tell the truth, until I ran across this information, I never thought twice about it. I only buy whole wheat bread and the only thing I was interested in was the date stamped on the package. After all, that is the only way to tell how fresh the loaf is.
You, like me, have thought that for years. However, today I will share with you another clue to determine a loaf of bread’s freshness. Most large chain stores have bakeries. There is nothing like getting fresh rolls, Italian bread, or hamburger buns from the bakery.
For the most part, the bread has been baked early morning or within a day. But the best way to tell is to look at the colored plastic tag or tie that closes the bag. The tag’s color indicates when the loaf was stocked on the store’s shelves. The tag indicates the day the bread was baked and packaged.
Most grocery stores follow the schedule listed below:
- Monday – Blue
- Tuesday – Creen
- Thursday – Red
- Friday – White
- Saturday – Yellow
If you are questioning Wednesday and Sunday, most bread bakeries take a production break on those days. Now that you are privy to that information, how can you remember it? It just so happens; that the colors correspond to the weekdays in alphabetical order. Blue (Monday), Green (Tuesday), Red (Thursday), White (Friday), then Yellow (Saturday).
Now you will know how to choose the freshest bread by using this tag color trick! Let me know how it works out for you.
Until next time,
Peace, Love, and Blessings💖
Saw this some time ago, but it was lost in a sea of other “good to know” information. Thanks for sharing!
