What is your favorite color? Mine is red followed by purple, and they like other colors have an effect on the body. Color psychology the study of how color affects mood and behavior, has determined the effect of color on the body. The study also includes responses to color using factors like age and ethnicity. For example, red stimulates your body and mind increasing circulation and libido. It is also associated with energy because it improves metabolism, however too much exposure to red causes stress and raises blood pressure.
Purple enhances spirituality and deep thoughts; and is associated with mystery, nobility, and glamour. It may also cause feelings of frustration and sadness.
Yellow helps release the “happy hormone” Serotonin, making you feel happy. It gives you a feeling of being happy and cheerful. But too much of it can cause fatigue, speed up your metabolism, and cause fatigue. As well babies cry more in yellow rooms.
White has a calming effect and represents a new beginning. Pink has the same effect, and both colors may help you feel happy. Those colors can also make it easier to see the happy expressions of other people, but harder to see sadness.
The color that has a soothing effect on the mind is blue. It slows the human metabolism promoting a calming effect. It may also suppress appetite. Bright blue light can help reset your circadian rhythm, your internal clock, if it is thrown off.
Gray is associated with self-restraint at times but also sophistication and style, however, on rainy days it can put you in a bad mood and decrease your energy level.
Green is soothing to the eyes, relaxes the body, decreases stress improves vision, and has an overall healing and hygienic effect. It seems to make positive emotions stronger and negative emotions weaker. Green also increases creativity, and the study assisted people to perform better with word and picture-based activities.
If you want to gain weight, consider the color orange. It increases appetite, and oxygen supply to the brain, and improves mental activity.
The bottom line is that mood-altering effects of color are temporary and can quickly change. The research on color psychology continues as more information is needed to include factors such as personal preferences and individual experiences.
Until next time,
Peace, Love, and Blessings ❤️
