Todays post is going to be a little different. I reserve Mondays for posts about natural health as well as physical and mental health. There is so much going on in our world today, and for most of us, our stress level has increased tenfold. The violence that is taking place in our streets rather gang related or police brutality and killing, is mentally overwhelming.
We all have discussed with our children how to conduct yourself if pulled over by an Officer. Be polite, keep your hands where they can be seen, address the Officer as Sir. If you have to reach into your glove compartment for your registration, state your intention to the Officer. Distrust of the law enforcement community has continued to grow in light of the senseless killing by Police Officers.
The guilty as charged verdicts on all three counts by the jury in the George Floyd case took so many of us by surprise. It was the verdict we wanted but did not expect to hear. We had finally won! For once justice had been served. Those are the thoughts that resonated in my own mind. We can’t let our guard down now!
I and many others were in awe and wept when the verdict sunk in, however those are not the tears I speak of today. This past Saturday, my Niece and I were waiting at the Pittsburgh International Airport for the arrival of her Father, my Brother. He and his wife were flying in from New Mexico. My Niece and her daughter had arrived on Friday from Tennessee. We all were excited and looking forward to the reunion as we had not seen each other in years.
On a bench just outside the terminal sat a middle aged Black gentleman with two little boys. They appeared to be waiting for a ride. The boys appeared to be about the ages of 6 and 8. As most children their age, they were getting restless. I smiled and waived at them and they waived back. A Caucasian Airport Police Officer making his rounds came by. He stopped and spoke to the boys, then all of a sudden I observed him having a foot race with them. They ran away from the bench and ran back. He had more conversation with them , then pulled little sticker badges from his pocket and applied one to each of their shirts. He saluted them and went on with his rounds.
Observing that gesture started the water works, it filled my heart to witness that interaction. I had to quickly explain to my Niece why I was crying. He was thoughtful enough to take a few minutes of his day to distract two little Black boys who were restless. It felt so good to personally witness an Officer making that sort of gesture.
My Niece and I were still waiting at curbside when the Officer came around again. As he neared my vehicle, I lowered the window and called out Sir! Sir! He approached, I told him that was a wonderful thing he did and gave him a thumbs up! He said thank you and again went over to the boys, who were sitting just beyond my rear bumper. They asked to race again, he explained he was on a mission and wasn’t able to. Once again he gave them a salute and went about his duties.
I wanted to share this because incidents like this are never known. All Officers are not bad, some take time to make an effort to do something like this. I am sure those two little Black boys will forever remember that interaction. One thing I am positive of, I always will.
Until next time,
Peace, Love, and Blessings
It was great to witness!
Thank you for that report. It’s good to hear good relationships with our police force. People need to know that all are not bad. Maybe one day we can take these apples and really make a American pie
Beautiful story. It’s niece to be reminded that all of us are different and as humans need to be considered individually. Kudos to this officer.
