All of my childhood my parents, and grandparents grew gardens producing some of the best fruit and vegetables you will ever taste. In fact my Dad’s parents lived in Arkansas and had a small farm. I recall going to the fields and eating blueberries, blackberries, and even watermelon straight from the field. Of course back in those days they never used pesticides or grow enhancers, it was all natural. In our world today it’s a total different story. Soil can easily become contaminated from water, pesticides, runoff, and animals. We have all witnessed recalls related to E. Coli, Salmonella, or other foodborne illnesses as a result of poor management of some farms.

The ten dirtiest foods are found in the produce department of your local supermarket. Over 90% of produce at the grocery store is coated in pesticides, fungus, fingerprints, or farmyard gunk. Following is a list of the ten dirtiest from 10, the least dirtiest, to 1, the dirtiest.

10. Tomatoes

9. Celery

8. Bell Peppers ( over 122 different pesticides found)

7. Pears

6. Peaches

5. Cherries

4. Grapes

3. Apples

2. Spinach

1. Strawberries ( the highest reported pesticides)

Pesticides are known to cause serious health risks, such as, rashes, blisters, blindness, nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, and even death. The effects of these pesticides may not show up until months after exposure. Rinsing with water will not get rid of 100% of the chemicals and microorganisms found on food. However, don’t panic or freak out thinking you can never eat these foods again. You can easily and quickly de-gunkify your produce so it is safe to eat.

Process to rid your food from pesticides and microorganisms:

Step 1: Purchase a non-toxic fruit and vegetable wash ( my personal preference is Attitude, it is certified vegan and made from plant and mineral based ingredients , there are many others available. Check my favorite shopping place Amazon!

Step 2: Spray your produce 3-4 times

Step 3: Rinse with running water

Step 4: Pat dry

It’s just that easy to protect yourself from pesticides and chemically laden fruits and veggies. Prevent dis-ease caused by chemicals, live a longer and healthier life.

Until next time,

Peace, Love, and Blessings!
