We all want to do something to improve our health but will make excuses when it comes to implementation. Its too expensive, it takes too much time, or I just can’t get motivated.
What if I told you there are some changes you can make today to improve your health ? I want to share with you fifteen things you can do that don’t cost a lot, don’t require a lot of time, or motivation. However they can make a remarkable difference in your health.
1. Slow down when you are eating. Taking your time allows your brain a chance to let you know you are full. As well you may find yourself making more sensible and healthy choices.
2. Socialize, whether you are in your home with your family or out with your friends. Put down your phone, tablet, laptop, or any other electronic device and enjoy some good old fashion conversation.
3. Get rid of the fruit juice. Most fruit juice is processed and has a high sugar content. Actual fruits are a good source of vitamin C, potassium, fiber and folic acid. They are also low in fat, sodium, and calories. Try juicing your fruits and vegetables at home.
4. Take time off ! Workers in the United States have a tendency to not use their allotted vacation time more than anywhere else in the world. Get away do something for yourself at least once a year, preferably more.
5. Be careful of fat in your diet. Trans fat which is found in frozen pizza and baked goods are linked to heart disease. Fats from dairy, whole eggs, fish, avocado and nuts are healthy fats. You may find this hard to believe but high dairy fat opposed to low fat dairy, may help you lose weight faster.
6. Have a drink. The recommended amount is one drink per day for females and two drinks per day for men. Red wine is especially good for your heart, stress and your sex life.
7. Manage your stress. Stress can kill you, it causes high blood pressure, heart disease, and ulcers. Practice deep breathing, listening to music, and meditate. Guided meditation videos are all over You Tube.
8. Cut back on your sugar intake. Sugar spikes your blood sugar and then causes a crash. This leaves you tired, hungry, and irritable.
9. Be active ! Get your heart rate up for 30 minutes at least a few times a week. Gardening, or just a walk around the block will help. Get a walking buddy.
10. Keep moving ! If you are in a sedentary job get up and move around every hour or so. This improves circulation and may help prevent diabetes and high blood pressure.
11. Eat your greens, Kale, spinach, arugula, collards, romaine, and broccolini are full of nutrients, low in calories, and high in fiber.
12. Dance ! Get your groove on, dancing keeps your mind sharp, your body moving, and stimulates your brain. I put on music and dance around the house as I’m cleaning.
13. Have sex. Sex is linked to heart and brain health. It can also lead to a longer life and healthier relationship. Just be safe if you are not in a committed relationship.
14. Get enough sleep. Lack of sleep leads to diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and depression. Adults should be getting 7-9 hours per night.
15. Get outside ! Those of us living in the State of Ohio know we get the least amount of sunshine than any other State in the Country. Sunlight sets your sleep clock and leads to more exercise. Even in the winter on a bright sunny day I will take a stroll around the block. The increase in vit. D you get from the sun improves cell function, mental health, and heart health. In the summer don’t stay in the sun too long and use sunscreen no matter what your skin tone.
There you have it, simple changes you can implement into your life for a longer, healthier one. No excuses lets do this !
Until next time,
Peace, Love, and Blessings ❤️
