I visited my physician this past February for my yearly check up. I really love Dr. Z, I won’t use his full name as I did not obtain his consent to be mentioned in this blog. At any rate we did our usual back and forth banter, him stating ” I know the answers but I have to ask you anyway”. Me responding with my normal answers. I have had some arthritis in both knees, I had the left scraped out, started a holistic remedy, exercising and have had no issues since.

We reviewed my labs next, everything was normal except my total cholesterol was elevated. Dr. Z quickly explained my bad cholesterol was within limits but my good cholesterol was elevated. No worries there, good cholesterol is great! I told him I don’t know what God’s plan is but mine is to live to be 100. Still healthy or as healthy as I can be. I eat a lot of avocados, usually one every morning or sometime during the day. Avocados are a healthy fat with multiple health benefits.

For many years we have been told to avoid cholesterol because it is bad for your heart. We started limiting eggs, cutting down our consumption of red meat and everything else we thought would increase our bad cholesterol levels. We also thought that eating too much cholesterol in our food would cause heart attacks and heart disease. What followed? The pharmaceutical companies produced the “statins”, medications targeted to reduce cholesterol levels, suddenly everyone was on one.

Guess what? Our heart health is no more healthy than it was fifty years ago. Truth of the matter is, fifty years ago we experienced fewer heart attacks and less heart disease. How is that???? The scientists and pharmaceutical companies have done it again, got it all wrong.

Back in the 1950’s Ancel Keys, a scientist, published some research that linked dietary cholesterol to heart disease. Other scientists criticized his work but it prevailed until he was proven wrong by his peers. It was proven food born cholesterol does not raise cholesterol levels and high blood cholesterol levels do not cause heart disease. Back in 2015 the Washington post published an article regarding this fallacy.

Food based cholesterol is actually heart healthy and does not affect the bloods cholesterol level. The reality is that cholesterol and the foods that contain cholesterol contain important nutrients necessary for our proper body function. Our bodies make cholesterol and it can be found in every body cell.

Be aware that higher cholesterol levels in the blood may be liked to inflammation in the body including higher levels of plaque adhering to the cell wall. What has been proven not to be true is the thought that food based cholesterol affect cholesterol blood levels.

I eat eggs nearly every day. One of my fave breakfasts is two boiled eggs, a whole avocado sliced, and two slices of bacon or sausage patties. Please don’t get me wrong, if your cholesterol levels have led to heart disease, or other inflammation, please use dietary and wholistic remedies to eradicate your disease. Statins are not good drugs but the bully pharmaceutical companies have the power to push through what they want, despite the side affects.

Remember to use your food ( healthy and organic food) to heal your dis- ease. Whenever possible use your food, plants and herbs as a healer. Join me next week for foods that reduce your cholesterol. Add natural remedies to your treatment regimen to reduce and/or eliminate pharmaceutical drugs.

Until next time

Peace, Love, and Blessings
